A reference by John Courtney, a man of God and serving through business
This interesting and thought provoking book considers the biblical concept of
the Curse at a number of levels:
• The universal curse; Eden to Revelation, where Eden is restored.
• The curse in Human personality, human society and human government; all around us is the utter wreckage of war, famine, deprivation,
exploitation, cruelty and inhumanity to man.
• The curse revealed as wickedness in the spiritual realm; our world
is infiltrated by the Evil one and his agents who are seeking to hold
humanity in bondage and darkness.
• The curse in our individual situations; our relationship with Jesus
Christ the true source of power and light is our shield against any evil
invoked by men to harm us.
When darkness is all around we need to hear the words of the victorious Christ
himself “I am He that liveth and was dead and behold I am alive forevermore
and I hold the keys of death and hell.” Rev 1.18
The book reminds us that there is much about the relationship between our
world and the unseen world that we cannot know now. Deut 29.29 tells us “The
secret things belong to the Lord but that which is revealed belongs to us and our
children forever” This verse is speaking of the captivity of the chosen people
under a dreadfully cruel regime as a punishment for their falling from the ways
of the Lord. While much remains hidden from our understanding, the hope
revealed in Scripture is wonderfully clear. Personally I love to be reminded of
Hebrews 2 14 “by his death he might break the power of him who holds the
power of death – that is, the devil, and free those who all their lives were held in
slavery by their fear of death”
